SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team travels to UTSA for a second time this season on Wednesday for a 6 o'clock first pitch at Roadrunner Field.
The Cardinals (9-13) are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Prairie View A&M on Sunday. They are hitting .254 as a team with a .337 on-base percentage.
Ethan McGill (Penn Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) leads the squad with a .338 batting average to go with seven doubles and 10 RBI's.
Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City, CA/Yuba City HS) and
Matt Morris (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro HS) are the two other regulars hitting over .300.
Austin Hoffman (Goodyear, AZ/Millenium HS) leads the team with 17 RBI's while
Colton Besett (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge HS) has a team high four home runs.
Senior
Kris Looper (Wharton/Wharton HS) is scheduled to make the start on the mound for UIW. He has struggled this year with an 0-2 record and a 9.82 earned run average. Overall, the team has a 6.24 ERA and opponents are hitting .307.
The Roadrunners (13-10) are members of Conference USA and they defeated the Cardinals, 12-0 earlier in the season. They have four regulars hitting over .300 including Tyler Straub who has a .382 batting average. Trent Bowles leads the squad with 11 doubles while John Bormann has scored 23 runs with a .426 on-base percentage.
UTSA is playing #1 Texas A&M tonight at Wulff Stadium. Aaron Burns has been the team's best pitcher with a 4-1 record and a 1.16 ERA in 23.1 innings. Brock Hartson has made six starts and tossed a team high 38.2 innings.
