Three Baseball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

FRISCO, Texas - Three players of the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team earned Southland Conference regular-season honors, announced today by the conference.

Senior Cole Tabor was named Second Team All-Conference as a shortstop, while teammate Preston Newberry was named Second Team for an outfielder. Rounding out the three was Tony DeJesus, who was named Second Team All-Conference as a utility player.

The Cardinals finished the 2026 season with a 19-29 overall mark and a 9-21 conference record. The 19 wins surpassed the 2025 mark of 17, and the nine conference victories were triple the previous season's total.

UIW this season posted a .985 fielding percentage to rank in the top five in the nation going into the final week of the regular season and first in the conference. The Cardinals only committed 26 errors this season, while their opponents registered 45 errors.

Tabor, who led the team in home runs with 13, finished the season with a .302 batting average, which was fifth best on the Cardinals.  The senior recorded a pair of team-highs in RBIs (49) and walks (38). He was one of two players to start all 48 games this year. One of his most memorable moments this season was back on March 31 at home against crosstown rival UTSA. Tabor walked it off with a three-run home run to give UIW a 13-11 victory. He also tallied a 29-game on-base streak, which was the longest by any Cardinal this season, while ending the season with a 15-game on-base streak.

Newberry started in 44 of 48 games this season for UIW in the outfield. His .340 batting average led the team, 46 runs scored, and his 10 home runs were second. The outfielder finished tied for first in doubles with 10 this season. He closed out 2026 on a five-game hitting streak, going 8-for-20 with four runs scored and a double. The redshirt junior hit .361 in conference action with seven home runs, eight doubles, and 21 RBIs. His .361 conference average was second on the squad. When Newberry hit in the leadoff spot, he batted .352 with 17 extra-base hits and 27 RBIs.

Utility player DeJesus finished the 2026 season with a .303 to rank fourth on the Cardinals. The senior tallied six doubles and five home runs. His six doubles placed him tied for fourth on the team. He finished with 13 multi-hit games, with 10 of them where he tallied two hits per game. DeJesus tied for first for the longest hitting streak this year with a 12-game hitting streak.  He reached base in 13 straight games, which was the sixth longest for a Cardinal player this season. On Feb. 13, DeJesus went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and two home runs against UIC. The two home runs in the game were his only multi-home run game of the year.
