EDINBURG, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team heads South on Thursday for a 7 p.m. rematch with UT Rio Grande Valley.

The Cardinals (3-6) will try to snap a five-game losing streak that began on December 3 at home when they lost to the Vaqueros (5-6), 68-50.  Brianna Williams (Wylie/Mesquite HS) has been carrying the scoring load recently with a pair of 20-point performances in her last three games.  She leads the team with 12.7 points per game and has knocked down 13 three-pointers.  Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) chips in with 10.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game along with a team high 15 steals. 

UIW is shooting 35.4 percent from the field for the season and just 26.6 percent from three-point range.  They are scoring 55.9 points per game, but have not eclipsed 55 points in their current losing streak.  Opponents are shooting 40.8 percent from the field and averaging 64.4 points per game.

UTRGV has been off since December 7 when they lost at Kansas State, 61-43.  Shawnte' Goff and Mary Savoy are the top two players on the team.  Goff is averaging 14.7 points and 3.2 assists per game as the team's point guard.  Savoy is averaging a double-double with 11.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while leading the team with 16 blocks and 27 steals. Overall, the team is shooting 35.5 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from three-point range.  They are averaging 63.7 points and allow 59.7 points per game.
