SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will start a three-game home stand Thursday, as they host Sul Russ State at 6 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals (1-1) opened the season with a 96-59 home win against LSU Alexandria and then lost to Colorado State on the road, 60-37.
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) is the team's leading scorer with 13.5 points per game while
Melina Merritt (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge HS) chips in with 11.5 points and 6.0 assists per contest.
Early in the season, the Cardinals have played good defense, being led by Adams with six steals and one block, while
Quincy Baker (Houston/Klein HS) has added five steals and two blocks. As a team, UIW has blocked five shots and collected 20 steals in two games.
On the offensive side, the Cardinals are shooting 41 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three-point line (15-of-38) and 67 percent from the charity stripe.

Katelynn Johnson (Baton Rouge, LA/Summer Creek HS) is right behind her with three while coming off the bench.
Sul Ross State (1-2) lost their first two games of the season before knocking off Schreiner, 56-55 in their latest game. All games have been on the road as they will not play a home game until December 19 when they host Louisiana College. The Lobos are a Division III team and a member of the American Southwest Conference. Kenya Miles comes off the bench and is averaging a team high 11.7 points and 4.3 steals per game. Ashley Ousley has pumped in 10.0 points per game.
