Box Score WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word traveled to #21 Purdue University and were dealt a 96-61 defeat at Mackey Arena on Wednesday night.

The Boilermakers (3-0) used a 31-7 run to close the first half to turn a close 5-point game into a 30-point lead.  The Cardinals (2-1) hung close through the first 13 minutes thanks to a trio of three-pointers by senior Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS).  In the end, the size of Purdue proved to be too much to overcome for UIW as the Boilermakers held a 38-14 advantage on points in the paint and had 37 more rebounds than the Cardinals.

The Cardinals finished the game shooting 28.4 percent from the field, made 12-of-30 from three-point range and were 7-of-9 from the foul line.  Purdue blocked 13 shots in the game.  Hittle and Jontrell Walker (Aurora/West Aurora HS) each scored 17 points.  Hittle was 6-of-8 from the field, 5-of-6 from three-point range and had three steals.  Walker knocked down three three-pointers and was 6-for-6 from the foul line.  Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy Falls HS) added 10 points.  The team had 12 assists, 10 steals and committed eight turnovers.

The Boilermakers shot 59.6 percent from the field, made 9-of-21 from three-point range and were 19-of-22 from the foul line.  Isaac Haas led the team with 17 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in just 19 minutes.  Ralpheal Davis scored 14 points while Vince Edwards had 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks.  They had 23 assists, seven steals and 22 turnovers.

The Cardinals are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Oklahoma for a 7 p.m. game.
