Women's Basketball Travels to Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, COLORADO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will play their first road game of the year on Tuesday evening at Colorado State University in Moby Arena at 8 p.m.

The Cardinals (1-0) opened the season on Friday with a nice 96-59 win over LSU-Alexandria at home.  Melina Merritt (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge HS) led the team with 21 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in the victory.  Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) had 19 points, seven rebounds and five steals for UIW.  The team made 11-of-22 from three-point range and had eight more rebounds than their opponents.

The Rams (1-0) began their season with an 84-42 win against Western State at home on Friday.  Elin Gustavsson led the team with 15 points and five rebounds in 22 minutes of action.  Ellen Nystrom added seven assists and seven steals in just 15 minutes of play.  They shot 43.6 percent from the field and forced 33 turnovers in their opener.
