Women's Basketball Takes a Loss

Box Score LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team suffered their worst loss of the season on Thursday night at Southland Conference rival McNeese State at Burton Coliseum.

The Cardinals (8-17, 2-10) and Cowgirls (16-10, 9-6) were tied 10-10 nine minutes into the game, but it was all McNeese State after that.  The Cowgirls outscored UIW, 28-9 over the final 11 minutes of the first half and then kept it going in the second half.  The outscored the Cardinals, 54-18 in the second half.

The Cardinals shot 27.7 percent from the field, made 3-of-10 from three-point range and were 8-for-15 at the foul line.  Ifunanya Mora (Grand Prairie/Arlington Bowie HS) led the team with 13 points and six rebounds, but was the only player to score more than six points.

The Cowgirls shot 55.7 percent from the field, made 8-of-18 from three-point range and were 6-for-7 at the charity stripe.  Cecilia Okoye posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds while making 9-of-12 from the field.  Allison Baggett scored 18 points and dished out four assists.  Talisa Boyd had 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench.  McNeese grabbed 33 more rebounds in the game than the Cardinals and committed six fewer turnovers.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Nicholls State.
