SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – In a battle of regionally ranked teams, the University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team easily defeated visiting St. Edward's on Wednesday, 8-1 at the Mabry Tennis Center. (

The Cardinals (11-5) entered the match ranked #18 in the nation and #3 in the region while the Hilltoppers (5-8) are ranked #6 in the region. The match began with an upset as Pedro Bronstrup and Felix Bake of St. Edward's defeated the UIW #1 doubles team, 9-8 (7). However, that was the last taste of victory for the Hilltoppers.
The Cardinals picked up wins in the other two doubles matches and swept singles play losing only a single set.
Leonard Ivic (Podstrana, Croatia/Economic Administration) had a good victory at #1 singles over a regionally ranked opponent, James Rogers, 7-5, 6-1.
Brandon Davis (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) improved his season record to 12-2 in dual matches with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Maximo Agoglia at #3 singles.
The Cardinals next match is their final home match of the season. They host Southeastern Oklahoma on April 5 at 10 a.m.
