The Incarnate Word men's tennis team started their 2026 Southland Conference campaign with a 6-1 road victory over Nicholls Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals are now 9-2 on the season and 1-0 in SLC play.

Incarnate Word got off to a fast start, winning all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Emilio Vila and Augustin Salazar cruised to a 6-0 win at third doubles, followed by near-identical 6-1 win by Santiago Flyckt and Marcel Miralles at first doubles to seal the doubles point. For good measure, Alejandro Hernandez and Alexandre Chauvel pulled out a 6-4 win at second doubles.

The Cardinals found similar success in singles, winning five of the six matches to secure the overall 6-1 victory. Hernandez, Vila, and Salazar all posted straight-set wins with Miralles and Ian Uraga pulling-out wins in third-set tiebreakers.

Hernandez won 6-2, 6-3 at first singles, Vila had no issues at second singles, winning 6-0, 6-1, and Salazar, after eking out a 7-5 first set, won the second set of his fourth singles match 6-2, to clinch the overall match win for Incarnate Word.

Miralles and Uraga both split the first two sets of their matches at third and sixth singles, respectively, but both won their third set tiebreakers to bring the final match score to 6-1.

The Cardinals continue their SLC road trip with a match at New Orleans on Monday, March 23rd. Start time is 1:00 p.m.
