Men's Tennis Topples New Orleans for 10th Win

NEW ORLEANS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team won its 10th match of the 2026 season with a 5-2 victory over the University of New Orleans on Monday from the Privateer Tennis Center.

Incarnate Word improves to 10-2 overall with a 2-0 mark in Southland play after winning the match that was delayed by several hours, while New Orleans falls to 8-9 with a 0-2 SLC record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • New Orleans won the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 2.
  • The Incarnate Word duo of grad student Emilio Vila and freshman Augustin Salazar won 6-2 in the No. 3 doubles contest. The tandem now stands at a perfect 8-0 on the season.
  • Vila and freshman Ian Uraga turned in dominant straight set performances in singles play, winning at Nos. 2 and 6, respectively, by scores of 6-4, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-4 to earn two points for Incarnate Word.
  • Salazar also won in straight sets with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph in the fourth flight.
  • Sophomore Alejandro Hernandez went the distance at No. 1, claiming a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision, while freshman Santiago Flyckt also used three sets to win 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 in the fifth flight.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals get a few days away from competition before returning to the court on Sunday, March 29, with a non-conference match against the University of Arkansas at 6:00 p.m. in Austin, TX. The neutral site contest will be held at Westwood Country Club.
