TURNOVERS COST UIW VS. MSU

Sophomore Ifunanya Mora had 11 points to lead Incarnate Word on Wednesday.

In the final home game of 2011 for the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team, the Cardinals lost to Midwestern State, 68-50, on Wednesday evening.

For UIW (6-3 overall, 2-3 in the Lone Star Conference), Wednesday's defeat to MSU and Saturday's loss on the road to Tarleton State are the first consecutive losses of the season.

Incarnate Word was led in scoring by Ifunanya Mora's 11 points while Chloe Wallace had 10 points and 8 rebounds as the only double-digits nights for UIW.

Midwestern State had four players in double figures, but only out-rebounded Incarnate Word by three – 41-to-38.

The two biggest stats of the night that really told the story of the contest were the disparity in free throws between the two squads and Midwestern State's winning of the turnover battle.

MSU converted 16-of-22 trips to the charity stripe while UIW only had 6 free throw attempts in the entire contest (making three) despite the 17-to-16 UIW-to-MSU foul count in the final statistics. Meanwhile, in turnovers, Incarnate Word coughed up the ball 27 times to MSU's 16 and the Mustangs scored 20 points off of UIW miscues.

The Cardinals will play on the road against Cameron University on Saturday before going home for the Christmas holiday. The team returns to action in the St. Mary's Classic on December 30th and 31st, facing University of Arkansas-Monticello and University of Central Oklahoma, respectively.
