Incarnate Word's women's basketball team earned their sixth conference victory and their first four-game winning streak of the season on Saturday, defeating Texas A&M International University, 64-58, in Laredo to stay undefeated and in first place in the Heartland Conference.
The Cardinals (11-5 overall, 6-0 in conference) took the lead in the first few minutes of the game and held it all the way to the final horn, but withstood a late run by TAMIU to get the win.
Senior forward/guard Jasmine Smith led UIW with 14 points and 6 rebounds, while senior Nia Torru added 13 points and 5 rebounds and senior Cinnamon Kava scored 11.
Incarnate Word's other two starters, Hayley Harvey and Nikki Brown, both scored eight points and had seven and six rebounds, respectively.
UIW returns home on Saturday, January 16th for a conference matchup against cross-town rival St. Mary's University at 2 p.m.
