University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

Incarnate Word’s volleyball team played two matches in the time October 28 to November 3 and Brittani Dear was a leader as she earned UIW female athlete of the week honors.

Both contests were against top opponents in the Southland Conference, including league leader Northwestern State, and Dear posted double figures in kills and digs in both matches.

In a win over S.F. Austin she had 14 kills and a team high 17 digs on defense.  When the Cardinals took NWS to five sets before losing she was the leader with her 13 kills to go with 12 digs. 

She also contributed one assist and one service ace in each match while averaging 1.5 blocking assists at the net.  Her hitting percentage for the week was .253.

Dear is a freshman outside hitter from La Vernia and she is studying pre-pharmacy at UIW.  Her name will be on the yearend ballot when Incarnate Word coaches and athletic administrators name a female athlete of the year.
