University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

The Incarnate Word volleyball team had but a single match during the period October 14 to October 20.  In leading the Cardinals to a 3-0 sweep Brittani Dear is the UIW female athlete of the week.

Her name now goes onto the ballot next spring when coaches and athletic administrators will name a female athlete of the year.

In the sweep of Abilene Christian, a fellow Southland Conference member, Dear tied for the team lead with her 11 kills.  More impressively, she had 18 hitting chances with but a single error.  That gave her a match percentage of .556 and that is exceptionally good.

Along the way she managed to come up with 17 digs on defense and that total led the Cardinals.  She also chipped in with one service ace and one solo block.

Dear is a freshman outside hitter from La Vernia.  She is studying pre-pharmacy at Incarnate Word.
