University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

GARZA TOPS FIRST PLACE UIW    
 
It was the 8^th annual UIW Cross Country Invitational and Irma Garza came home ahead of all her teammates.  As a result she is the Incarnate Word female athlete of the week for the period October 7 to October 13.
 
The Cardinals won the meet for the Division I schools.  In that section Garza toured the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:24.11 to lead UIW.  Plus, that time was good for fourth position among the upper division runners and seventh overall at the meet which included a section for non-D-I entries.
 
This was the first time this year for Garza to receive the weekly honor.  As a result her name now will be on the ballot at the conclusion of the UIW athletic year as coaches and athletic administrators vote for the female athlete of the year.
 
Garza is a junior at Incarnate Word.  She graduated from St. Anthony high school in San Antonio and she is studying rehabilitative sciences at UIW.
