University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

During the time September 30 to October 6 the men’s tennis team at Incarnate Word played in the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational hosted by Lamar University of the Southland Conference.  Josip Smoljan won his flight in singles and thus is UIW’s co-male athlete of the week.
 
Smoljan went undefeated in pool play by winning three matches over opponents from host Lamar, national junior college power Tyler and Texas-Pan American. 
 
Playing for the flight championship Smoljan won in three sets over another player from Lamar.  He also played doubles at the invitational but he and his partner went out in the consolation semi-finals.
 
Smoljan is a sophomore from Citluk, Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Before UIW he played a year at Oklahoma Christian University.  His UIW major is business administration.
 
His name will be on the yearend list for male athlete of the year as selected by UIW coaches and athletic administrators.
