University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

Alex Alonzo came through with two of the biggest hits of the weekend for the UIW softball team and she is the UIW Female Athlete of the Week for her clutch performances.  She is now eligible for the UIW Female Athlete of the Year Award that is voted on by UIW coaches and sports administration.

Alonzo began the weekend against Northwestern State 0-for-6 at the plate, but in her seventh at bat she came through with a walk-off, game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning of the second game of the series.  She then hit a 2-run homer in her first at bat of the third game, a game the team would eventually win, 7-5.  She finished the week 3-for-10 at the plate with three runs batted in.

Alonzo is a junior interdisciplinary studies major from San Antonio and she graduated from Smithson Valley High School.
