University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

The fact that it was the first weekend of action for swimming at Incarnate Word and that the competition was all Division I seemed to make no difference to Lana Nguyen as she earned UIW female athlete of the week for October 6 through October 12.
 
The women Cardinals traveled to Houston for back-to-back competitions against first Rice and then the University of Houston.  Over the course of the weekend Nguyen was four for five in her races.
 
Against Rice she was in two races winning the 50-freestyle (23.78) and touching second in the 100-free (52.90).
 
The next day the Cardinals moved across town to the U. of H. and she went three for three.  Again she won the 50-free (23.75) and the 100-free (52.13).  She then teamed with three other Cardinals to win the 400-freestyle relay event.  She swam third; the team’s time was 3:33.10.
 
Nguyen is a senior from Kiev, Ukraine.  At UIW she is studying interior design.  She will be on the ballot when UIW coaches and athletic administrators name a female athlete of the year next May.
