ALONA KYSELOVA

Alona Kyselova got one record and was just a stroke or so away from two others at the UIW Christmas Invitational Swimming and Diving Invitational.  She is the Incarnate Word female athlete of the week for December 15 to December 21.

All three of those swims came in events where the times were deemed all but untouchable at Incarnate Word.  The school marks in all three were set in 2011 when Casey Hurrell-Zitelman had her astounding spring including winning an NCAA Division II record four events at the national championships and was All-America in one more.

Kyselova touched first in the 200-breaststroke in a UIW record time 2:14.74.  That broke Hurrell-Zitelman’s mark of 2:18.56. 

She then won the 400-IM in 4:14.41 and that was just 0.41 short of the record.  Her second near-miss was in the 200-IM where she was 2^nd at 2:01.60 missing the UIW mark by 0.70 seconds.

And she wasn’t done just yet.  Kyselova finished seventh in the 100-breast in 1:05.81. 

She was on three Cardinals relay teams.  She swam the third leg on the 400-medley relay and UIW was third.  She was the first into the water on both the 400 and 800-freestyle relays and both events Incarnate Word was third.

Kyselova now will be on the ballot next May when UIW coaches and athletic administrators select a female athlete of the year.
