University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

It was the National Collegiate Championship meet in synchro and Katy Wiita was a busy swimmer earning top finishes and honors.  Thus she is the Incarnate Word female athlete of the week for March 17 to March 23.

For all of her efforts in leading UIW to a fifth place finish Wiita was named to the USA Synchro All-American team.

In the duet event Wiita and her partner finished sixth, a mere six-tenths of a point from fifth position.  She then was in the Cardinals’ trio group which gained enough points to place eighth.

Her final effort came in the team swim where UIW was sixth, again close to fifth losing by a half a point.

Wiita is a sophomore from Portland, Ore., Gabel High School.  Earlier this season she was named to the 2014 National Synchronized Swimming Team which will compete at the FINA World Cup in Canada in October.

She will now be on the yearend ballot when UIW coaches and athletic administrators select a female athlete of the year.
