Almost everything he touched turned to gold as Thiago Parravicini led his swimming and diving mates to the title at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association meet.  As the Cardinals leader he is the UIW male athlete of the week for the period February 17 to February 23.
 
The men’s swimming and diving team captured the first-ever conference championship in this the first year for the Cardinals to compete in Division I of the NCAA.
 
Parravicini swam in five events.  Four times he was on the platform as a winner, the other time his relay team was second.  And, in his five races, five new UIW school records were set.
 
He dominated the breaststroke event at the meet.  He won the 100 in a record time of 53.00.  He tied his own mark in the 200 at 1:54.67.  He then turned his attention to the medley relay events where he swam the breaststroke again.  In the 200 he swam the second leg and the Cardinals won in a school record time of 1:27.52.  In the longer 400 medley relay, he swam third and UIW won again in a record 3:12.27.
 
He led off the 800-freestyle relay as the Cardinals finished second in another UIW school record time of 6:34.10.
 
Parravicini is a senior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  He will be on the yearend ballot when Incarnate Word coaches and athletic administrators select a male athlete of the year.
