The Incarnate Word men's track and field team had a few top 5 finishes and a couple more top 10 finishes on day one of the Michael Johnson Invitational, hosted by Baylor University.
Alex Brown had both top 5 finsihes for the Cardinals, placing fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 59.32 meters and then fifth in discus, with a top throw of 49.64 meters.
Mason Winecoff was eighth in the hammer throw event with a distance of 50.51 meters and nearly had another top 10 finish in discus, coming up a few meters short, throwing 42.43 meters. Gibson Conrad took eighth in discus with a mark of 47.80 meters.
The other top 10 placement of the day came in track in the 400-meter hurdles event.
Jake Grullon crossed the line in 53.22 seconds to finish eighth.
Other notable results were a 12th-place finish from
Ahmir Robinson in the 200-meter dash (21.31 seconds), an 11th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run for
David Sanchez (16:25.85), a 12th-place finish for
Jonah Ulbricht in pole vault (4.91 meters), and a personal-best 4.76 meters in pole vault by
Mika Funck.
