SAN ANTONIO - The University of Incarnate Word men's soccer team hits the road for the first time this season to face off against Southern Methodist University (SMU) tonight at 7:00 p.m. and return to the nest for Friday's game against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV)  on Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m.

• Coming off a shutout win against Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) last Friday, the Cardinals exploded for 11 shots on target, which was the most this season. Two of them came from Diego Robles and Emmanuel "Manny" Martinez, who both contributed goals in the 2-0 victory against OLLU.

• Robles has two goals on the season.

• Alejandro De La Torre tallied his third shutout this season against OLLU this past week.

Scouting the Mustangs

• The Mustangs began the season hot, winning their first three games of the 2025 season. Since Aug. 28, they have lost and tied in their last two previous games leading up to their matchup against the Cardinals.

• Forward Mukisa Emmanuel has scored 12 goals in 24 appearances since 2024, two this season.

• Since 2016, the Mustangs have shutout and won every matchup against the Cardinals over a four game span.

Scouting the Vaqueros

• The Vaqueros vs. the Cardinals is a recurring matchup that has been repeated for almost 40 years and has been competitive throughout their 18 games. UTRGV leads the all time win total against UIW with an 11-6-1 record.

• The Cards defeated the Vaqueros last year 2-1, snapping UTRGV's four game win streak against UIW that spanned from 2021-2023.

• Eduardo De Oliveira is the Vaqueros' lone goal scorer in his first three games with UTRGV this season.

• De Oliveira earned All-American honors after scoring 13 goals with five assists in 17 games. Four of his 13 goals were game-winners.
