ST. CHARLES, Missouri -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team (1-5-1, 0-2 OVC) fell to Lindenwood (4-2-4, 1-0-1 OVC), 2-0, on Thursday afternoon at Hunter Stadium.
Diego Robles recorded both of the Cardinals' shots in the first half, both missing just high of the frame. Lindenwood notched five shot opportunities in the opening half, putting two on goal, while also holding a 3-to-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Cardinals more than doubled their shot total in the second half, with Robles adding another attempt to lead UIW with three on the afternoon. Reagan Gyedu and Juan Monrreal each recorded a shot in the second half, their attempts on target to account for UIW's two shots on goal.
The Lions struck first in the 56th minute, converting a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. UIW continued to search for an equalizer, but Lindenwood added an insurance goal in the final minute to secure the 2-1 victory.
The Cardinals return home to play UTRGV Sunday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. at Benson Stadium.
