Box Score SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team (1-4-1) fell to Florida Gulf Coast (4-4) in a 3-0 decision Friday night at Benson Stadium.
FGCU controlled the match from the beginning, scoring in the sixth minute on its first shot of the game. The Eagles continued to maintain possession and doubled their lead in the 25th minute. Knox Hicks recorded UIW's first and only shot of the opening half in the 28th minute.
FGCU took a 2-0 advantage into halftime while holding an 8-to-1 edge in shots.
The Eagles struck again just five minutes into the second half to extend their lead to 3-0. The Cardinals were limited to one shot after the break, with Rodrigo Chavira recording the attempt.
The Cardinals turn their attention to conference play, opening on the road against Houston Christian on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
