SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team opens Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. against Houston Christian at Sorrels Field.
The Cardinals are coming off a 3-0 loss to FGCU in the final non-conference match last Friday. UIW was held to just two shots in the match, coming from Knox Hicks and Rodrigo Chavira.
Through the first six games, Diego Robles leads the team in goals (two), points (four), shots (16) and shots on goal (seven). Robles ranks seventh in the conference in shots on goal, averaging 1.17 a match.
Victor Salmeron is second in the conference in saves per game, recording 14 through three matches played, averaging 4.67 saves a game.
Despite recording the fewest shots in the conference, the Cardinals lead nationally in shot accuracy. UIW has put 29 of its 46 shot attempts on goal, good for a .630 shot accuracy percentage, which ranks first in Division I men's soccer.

HOUSTON CHRISTIAN (2-4-2)

ABOUT THE HUSKIES: Houston Christian enters conference play with a 2-4-2 record, coming off a 1-1 draw with Oral Roberts. The Huskies have wins over UMass Lowell and Grand Canyon University, both by 1-0 decisions. Houston Christian swept the Ohio Valley Conference weekly men's soccer accolades following its win over Grand Canyon, with Clarenns Sainrimat earning Offensive Player of the Week, Nico Kross taking Defensive Player of the Week and Harvey Heeps earning Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the second time this season. Ryan Okerayi leads the Huskies with 16 shots, ranking third in the conference and averaging 2.0 a game. He also shares the team lead with two goals.
MATCHUP HISTORY: The all-time series is tied 7-7-4 between UIW and Houston Christian. The Huskies won the most recent matchup, 2-1, on their home field in 2025. The Cardinals are seeking their first win over the Huskies since 2021, with the last eight matchups resulting in either a UIW loss or a draw.
