SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team welcomes FGCU on Friday night to Benson Stadium for its final non-conference matchup.
The Cardinals return to action following an 11-day break after last playing No. 3 SMU on Sept. 3. UIW fell to the Mustangs, 3-0, in Dallas, holding SMU to three goals despite being outshot 21-4. Victor Salmeron recorded four saves in just his second start of the season, while Knox Hicks led the Cardinals in his season debut, creating two shot opportunities, including one on goal.
Here's a look at the Cardinals' final matchup before they begin conference play.
FGCU (3-4)
WHEN AND WHERE: Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m., Benson Stadium (San Antonio, Texas)
ABOUT THE EAGLES: The Eagles enter Friday's matchup following a 3-1 win over OVC opponent Houston Christian on Wednesday night. FGCU secured the victory despite being outshot 15-5, marking the first time since 2018 the Eagles have won a match with a shot differential of -10 or greater. Emerson LaOrden capped the scoring with the Eagles' third and final goal, bringing his season total to three goals and tying him for the team lead.
FGCU was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Sun Conference pre-season poll but has dropped its opening two conference matches. The Eagles will wrap up their two-game stint in Texas on Friday before resuming conference play.
MATCHUP HISTORY: This will be the first meeting between UIW and FGCU.
