Hometown Showdown Set to Take Place at Toyota Field

SAN ANTONIO — For the second straight year, the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) and the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) will clash in the Hometown Showdown at San Antonio FC's Toyota Field, officials from both universities and the professional club announced Wednesday, Aug. 20. This year marks the third all-time meeting between the Cardinals and Roadrunners. Kickoff is set for Thursday, Sept. 4, at 6:30 p.m.

The matchup against UTSA will be UIW's sixth contest of the 2025 campaign. Last season, the Roadrunners edged the Cardinals 1-0 in front of a packed Toyota Field crowd.

Tickets & Admission
General admission tickets are $10, with parking in lots 1 and 2 available for $5. A portion of all proceeds will benefit both programs. Tickets can be purchased online at [SAFC Tickets]. The first 300 students from UTSA and UIW will receive free admission by presenting their student ID at the Toyota Field box office.

About the Cardinals
Led by third-year head coach Jake Plant, the Cardinals are looking to add another milestone victory in the young 2025 season. UIW opened the year with a historic 2-1 win over North Texas — its first-ever victory against the Mean Green.

Several returning players who competed in last year's Showdown will take the field again, joined by new faces stepping into key roles. Before meeting UTSA, UIW will travel to Rice, host Prairie View A&M, and visit Tarleton State.
