SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team travels to Missouri to compete on Oct. 16 against Lindenwood University (LU) at 7:00 p.m. and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) on Oct. 19 at noon.
CARDINALS
Through five games of conference competition, UIW has a record of 0-2-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference (4-4-5 total).
Five different Cardinal players have had over five shot attempts and kept an efficient shot on goal percentage in the five-game span (54.1%).
Last year's matchup against Lindenwood University ended in a draw, 2-2. The Cardinals trailed against the Lions 2-0 until the 60-minute mark, where UIW scored twice in 15 minutes. One goal came from
Sello Diphoko to seal the tie.
The Cardinals seek revenge in what could be an OVC classic against the SIUE Cougars. Their previous matchup was in the OVC Semi-Final last November. The Cardinals lost in a tough battle 1-0 last year and hope to have their way against the Cougars in Sunday's match.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
- Emmanuel Martinez leads the team in shot efficiency within five conference games, with four of six shots on target (66.7% SOG). He has one goal, which came from a free kick outside the keeper's box against Liberty University earlier this month.
- Diego Robles continues to lead the Cardinals in goals (4) and is second in assists (2), including his performance against Southern Illinois University with one goal and one assist in less than 50 minutes of playing time.
- Noe Robles is right behind Diego Robles with three goals and one assist this season. The dynamic duo of both Robles' continues to shine on the pitch through each week.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
- Lindenwood currently holds first place within the OVC with a 3-1-1 record (10-1-2 total).
- The Lions fell 1-0 last Sunday against Liberty University, which was their first loss of the campaign.
- Gavin Csiszar leads the team in goals with six this season.
