SAN ANTONIO – Tomas Reche from the University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team was named the 2024 Southland Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Monday. Reche also earned all-academic first-team honors, along with Noah DeLuna, Andoni Garmendia, and Arnau Miralles. Joao Sasso was named to the all-academic second team.
Tomas Reche – MBA in Business Administration – 4.00
Reche had a stellar senior season, finishing with a 9-7 record in singles and a 14-4 record in doubles. He was named to the SLC First Team at No. 3 singles and SLC First Team at No. 2 doubles with Emilio Vila.
Noah DeLuna – Business Administration – 3.46
The San Antonio native posted a record of 11-5, mainly playing at the No. 6 singles position. In doubles play, he and his partner finished 13-4 overall.
Andoni Garmendia – Business Administration – 3.39
The Junior from Chile, Garmendia, finished 15-2 in singles play, including a 6-0 record in the No. 4 spot. He and his doubles partner picked up 12 wins, 11 of which came at the No. 1 position.
Arnau Miralles– Business Administration – 3.38
Miralles recorded a .765 winning percentage in singles play with 13 wins. He and his doubles partner finished 9-3, with seven wins in the No. 3 spot.
Joao Sasso – Engineering – 3.90
Sasso teamed up with his doubles partner in his final season in San Antonio to finish 12-6 overall. Sasso spent most of his time at the No. 1 position in singles play, recording 11 wins for the Cardinals.
