TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word track and field team had a dominant week of competition. Taking their talents up the road to San Marcos and Austin the Cardinals hit some great marks, broke a few school records, and earned great rankings.
 
A few student-athletes who qualified for the meet competed at Texas Relays in Austin. The four-day event was kicked off with Kyle Sieracki and Isaiah Hudgens in the decathlon. Kyle set a new personal record in three events, the shot put, high jump and the 400. Day two was led by Hudgens who PR'd in the discus and javelin. In the end Isaiah scored 7541 points in the decathlon, both a personal best and a school record in the event.
 
Two more Cardinal records were broken at the Texas Relays, Griffin Neal run the 5,000 in 14:06.83 and Chris Daniels went 9:01.16 in the 3k steeple.
 
Down in San Marcos UIW had 20 top-10 finishes, including Eric Pineda winning the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:29.74 and Dasya Tolbert who ran the third fastest time in the 100 hurdles in 13.88 seconds.
 
After the two meets the Cardinals had five event groups ranked in the tops of the NCAA. High jump came in at number nine, pole vault at 11, 110 hurdles was 13. On the women's side the high jump was sat at 13 and the shot put squad was at 30. On top of this the men's team reached their highest team ranking in both the South Central Region, eighth, and the country, thirty sixth.
