Women's Soccer Set for SLC Conference Tournament

Corpus Christi – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team will compete in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament Tuesday against Texas A&M – Commerce at 4 p.m. in Corpus Christi. 

UIW 

  • The Cardinals are 8-7-3 on the year and 5-4-1 in SLC play, qualifying for postseason play for the first time since 2021. 

  • Graduate Student Sierra Wannamaker leads the Cardinals with five goals on the year, including four in conference. She is also second in the SLC for game-winners with three. 

  • Sophomore Erica Defferding was named SLC Goalkeeper of the Year and first team all-conference. She has set the UIW division 1 record for saves (87) and shutouts (7).  

  • UIW won the previous matchup with the Lions 3-0 on October 25th.  

Scouting the Lions 

  • Texas A&M – Commerce is 7-9-3 on the year with a 6-3-1 mark in SLC play, earning the 3rd seed in the conference tournament. 

  • Sophomore Kaydence Ramirez was named the SLC Player of the Year and leads the team in goals with nine and points with 20. 

  • Junior Gillian McKenzie has recorded 43 saves in 14 starts for Lions while freshman Veronica Pacione has 11 saves in eight games played and is 4-1. 

The winner will face the winner of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and Lamar at 7 p.m on Thursday, November 7th.
