LAS CRUCES - The University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team finished with an 857 total score and in fourth place out of 15 teams at the Herb Wimberly Memorial hosted by New Mexico State on October 14th and 15th.
The Cardinals had a solid first round, scoring a 289 as a team and sitting in fifth place. Senior Ken-Marten Soo was tied for seventh shooting 2-under-par. Joe Beunfeld followed with an even 71, Francisco Taboada was 2-over and Carson Hunsucker was at 76. Cole Cantu was playing in his first event of the year and was at 79 after round one. Â
In round two, Soo was at par and Buenfeld was at 72. Taboada and Hunsucker both improved from round one with Taboada improving by three strokes and shooting 1-under and Hunsucker shooting a 74. Cantu was at 79 once again and the Cardinals sat at 576 and in fifth place.Â
UIW had a strong final round in New Mexico to help them move into fourth place, posting a 281 total score. Buenfeld and Hunucker both were at 69 to help the Cardinals, while Soo was at 1-over-par and Taboada was at an even 71. Cantu rounded out the Cardinals posting another 79, respectively. Â
The UIW men's golf team will have a week off before competing in their final fall tournament in Houston at the Husky Intercollegiate hosted by Houston Christian on October 28th and 29th.
