Looking Back on Historic Men's Golf Season

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team had another historic season, reaching heights never before seen in the 2024-25 season.

Head coach Thomas Kearney said, "Last season was yet another record breaking one, both on and off the course. I am so incredibly proud of growth of this group, that has truly left a legacy that has taken the program to another level."

The Cardinals showed off their prowess at Southland Conference championships. Day two in Kerrville UIW shot lowest single round team score in program history and Ken-Marten Soo led the way shooting lowest single round individual score in program history. Both the team and Soo had the best finish at Southland Conference in program history taking second.

It wasn't just in the final tournament of the season that the Cardinals showed their strength. UIW also took second place at Grier Jones Shocker Invitational (tied best finish in D1 program history) and had four top 3 finishes in the 2024-25 season.

On top of this the Cardinals held the lowest national team ranking in Division 1 program history, the lowest team scoring average in program history, the most individual par or better rounds in a single season all spurred on by five team rounds of Par or better and 47 individual rounds of Par or better.

UIW continued to make waves in the record books with the second lowest 54-hole scoring record (to par) in program history, low Individual season scoring averages (3rd, 4th, 7th + 9th), second lowest individual 54-hole scoring.

Two Cardinals, senior Ken-Marten Soo & freshman Francisco Taboada, were named Southland All-Conference team. While the team will be losing the talented Soo, there is a great foundation with a mix of young talent led by Taboada and a batch of new

"Next season, we bring in four new faces and I'm so excited to continue this rapid development with a whole new dynamic," Kearney said.

Off the course the men's golf team held the highest season GPA in program history, four All-American Scholars, All-Academic Team Presidents Special Recognitions, had the most community service hours of any UIW Athletics program.

The countdown is on as the Cardinals next season get started in less than two months on September 8 in Manhattan, Kansas at the Wildcat Invitational.
