Incarnate Word Finishes Strong at Military City Collegiate

SAN ANTONIO, TX. – The University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team carded a team score of 899 (+35) to finish sixth overall at the Military City Collegiate hosted by UTSA at TPC San Antonio - Canyons.

The two-day tournament featured 36 holes of play on Monday, followed by a single 18-hole round on Tuesday.

Incarnate Word opened play with a team score of 295 on Monday morning, sitting fourth overall, ending the first day of play at +17. Individually, junior Rhys Nicholas tied for 5th out of 69 players at the event, shooting a 2-over 218. UTSA's Joshua Hong turned in a 215 (-1) across the three rounds to win on his home course.

Sophomore Joel Talusen finished in a tie for 11th, shooting a 6-over 22, while senior Francisco Taboada followed up with a Top 20 finish, shooting 224 (+8), followed 

As a team, the Cardinals 35 birdies and two eagles in the tournament, while Nicholas led all players with a 3.87 scoring average on Par 4s.

UP NEXT
Incarnate Word remains in the Lone Star State next week when the team travels to Sweetwater, Texas to compete in the Colin Montgomerie Invitational hosted by Houston Christian University at the Sweetwater Country Club. 

The Cardinals finished 3rd overall a year ago and have a strong history of success at the invitational.
