Men’s Soccer Falls to UTRGV and CSUF

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team fell in both of their games this week. First against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, 3-0, and later to California State University Fullerton, 1-0.

In their first game of the week the Cardinals struggled against UTRGV. UIW gave up two penalty kicks due to fouls in the box and fell to the Vaqueros 3-0.

The second game of the week was more competitive. The Cardinals were strong in defense throughout the first half except for on lapse in the 28^th minute on a Titans counterattack, which put UIW down 1-0.

Despite being down hope was not lost for UIW as the Cardinals had more shots and corners than the Titans though the first half.

The second half was closely contented and UIW was able to hold Fullerton to one goal. With under five minutes to go the Cardinals still had a chance to tie the game, earning three straight corner kicks.

UIW was unable to convert on any of those set pieces and fell by a final score of 1-0.

Up next for the Cardinals is a match up with Santa Clara University on Thursday back in Benson Stadium.
