Men’s Soccer Falls Against HCU in a Competitive Conference Matchup

SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team fell to conference rival Houston Christian University 1-2 last Friday on the Huskies' home turf. In the Ohio Valley Conference, the Cardinals' record this campaign is 0-5-3 (4-7-5 total).

CARDINALS VS. HUSKIES (1-2)
With the Cardinal loss last week, the all-time record between the two clubs is now even at 7-7-4 over 11 years.

Within the first five minutes, the Husky forward Joby Reid tallied a point on his first shot attempt to take the lead against the Cardinals (0-1).

UIW midfielder Noe Robles would respond with two shot attempts at goal. One of which collided with the Husky goalkeeper and ricocheted into the area of Evan Kraenzel, who pushed it past the keeper, earning the freshman his first collegiate goal and making the game even (1-1).

Following the Husky goal, UIW goalkeeper Alejandro De La Torre would save four out of eight shots on goal in the first half, keeping the Cards in this game. UIW would attempt three more shots, with none successful, ending the first half 1-1.

It would take 25 more minutes of battling one another for the next point to be scored in this contest. Reid would be a helping hand at this goal by assisting Ben Thirkill to take the lead 2-1, 65 minutes into the match.

The Cardinals would have three more opportunities at goal to attempt to knot this game at two, with one shot coming from midfielder Juan Monrreal.

Monrreal was subbed in at the 81st minute to spark energy into the Cardinal starting lineup, as he's done in the past. He helped UIW win over UTRGV this season by coming off the bench and scoring one goal and assisting another.

Monrreal would have an attempt at goal two minutes after being subbed on, yet would end up unsuccessful following a save from the Husky keeper.

15 minutes later, the match concludes 2-1 with the Cardinals falling short in a conference matchup.
