SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team has announced the 2023-24 schedule.  
 
The Cardinals will officially kick things off in Austin against the University of Texas on Nov. 6. and play their first game in the McDermott Center against Schreiner University on Nov. 12. In preparation for Southland play, UIW will compete in San Antonio in the UTSA Multi-team Event with Jacksonville State. As well as making trips to Oklahoma (Tulsa, Nov.11), Arkansas (Arkansas PB, Nov. 18), Florida (Bethune Cookman, Dec. 1), and Illinois (Illinois at Chicago, Dec. 21).
 
This is the first season under new Head Coach Shane Heirman, who came to UIW from Central Michigan.
 
"We are incredibly excited to announce our schedule. This schedule is a great mix of road tests, quality home opponents, and an in-season tournament that will keep us home in San Antonio. The 13 non-conference games will be critical in preparing us for the stiff competition the Southland Conference has to offer," Heirman said.
 
The 2023-24 season will be the eleventh in the Southland for UIW. The Cardinals will start conference play on January 6 when they host the defending conference champions Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.
 
UIW returns four student-athletes, Davante Dennis, Dylan Hayman, Gabe Beny-Til, and Josh Morgan. This year's squad will feature 11 new faces including both freshmen and transfers from near and far.
