SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team was picked to finish second in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
Last season, the Cardinals took the Southland Conference Championship for the second year in a row and finished the deepest playoff run in UIW football history.
The poll is voted on by the head coach and football sports information director from each school in the league. For the second year in a row, the back-to-back conference champion Cardinals were picked to finish second after picking up seven first-place votes, and 91 points. They finished right behind Southeastern Louisiana who had nine first place votes and 93 points.

UIW will kick off conference play, on the road to a third consecutive conference title, against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, October 7 at 4 p.m. inside Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium.
