SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball program welcomes two early signees to the 2024-25 squad. Brynn Lusby and Eryn McKenzie signed with UIW on November 8, 2023.
"We're excited about the additions of Eryn and Brynn," Head Coach
Jeff Dow said. "We wanted to continue to add to our length on the perimeter and along our front line, and we were able to accomplish that. While we were impressed with their athletic and basketball ability, we were equally impressed with their character and how well they have prepared themselves academically thus far to transition to the University of the Incarnate Word. Obviously, we place an emphasis on any recruit's basketball potential and academic background, but we also put a premium on doing our due diligence on their character to ensure they will be a good fit for the culture of our progra
m. We're excited about what both of these young ladies will bring to the table on the court and we're confident they will help us continue to grow our program off the court as well."
Lusby averaged nearly a double-double for Panther Creek High School last season with 19 points per game and nine rebounds. She was critical in leading her team to finish first in District 11-4A, Bi-District Champions, Area Champs, and Regional Quarterfinal Champs. She was named to the TABC All-Region Team, District 11-4A MVP, Starr Local Media All-Area Second Team, and ranked No. 60 in Texas for the class of 2024 (Premier Basketball). Lusby opened her senior season with 23 points, 12 rebounds and five steals.
"We had the opportunity to see Eryn and Brynn in a variety of settings from participating with their high school and AAU teams, to attending one of our Elite Camps this past summer. We're extremely confident that each of them will fit in well with what we like to do offensively in terms of playing essentially with four guards and one forward. They can play on the perimeter, space the floor with their 3-point shooting ability and drive it on occasion. Eryn has a tremendous amount of versatility to her game that should allow her to thrive in our offense. Brynn will bring an element of physicality and toughness that will translate well to the college level. We feel like they have only scratched the surface as to the type of player they can each become. We definitely try to recruit the state of Texas hard and each of the recruits was ranked in the top 60 of Jason Key's final ranking for the Premier Basketball Report identifying the top prospects in the state of Texas. We really feel that Eryn and Brynn each have the potential to step in immediately and compete for playing time from day one."
McKinzie averaged 15 points per game last season at Brewer High School while being named to the Academic All-District Team the last three years. She was named District 5-5A MVP, three times First Team All-District, Star Telegram All-Area Second Team and was ranked No. 37 in Texas for the class of 2024 (Premier Basketball). During her time at Brewer, she joined the 1,000-point club and led the team to a 28-4 record and the first regional quarterfinal game since 1958. This season, she leads her team to a 3-0 start.
