SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team competed in its annual Spring Game on Thursday, April 14, at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium. This was the team's final practice session of the spring; the Cardinals now look towards their first season in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in the fall.
 
"I thought we had a great spring," said Head Coach G.J. Kinne. "We were able to lay the foundation for the type of team we want to be, while at the same time staying healthy. Excited about this group of players and coaches."
 
Transfer quarterback Lindsey Scott has become one of the many leaders for UIW. Scott joined UIW after throwing for 2,083 yards for 16 touchdowns for Nicholls State University last season. He has been working with the Cardinals through the spring, and Kinne noted he is "a standout leader."
 
The Cardinals begin fall action in their home opener on Sept. 3 against Southern Illinois University before hosting former SLC foe and future WAC opponent Sam Houston at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium on Sept. 24.
 
With six additions to the coaching staff, as well as some who remained on staff, Kinne is confident in continued success this fall.  "If it isn't broke, don't fix it," said Kinne. "We will be doing things differently, but I know the guys on the staff will lead the team to new heights."
