SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word's head football coach
G.J. Kinne announced the addition of seven student-athletes to the 2022 football roster on Wednesday, Feb. 2. These seven join five December signees -- Emeka Obigbo,
Caleb Flores, Austin Yeager, Matt Freeman, and Preston 'Max' Harris.
Obigbo, Lindsey Scott Jr., Stephen Parker, Chris Whittaker, Zamari Maxwell and Isaiah Robinson are on campus and will participate in spring football with UIW. Flores, Yeager, Freeman, Harris, Austin DeArmond, Kole Wilson, Jaheim Patterson and Lloyd LJ Johnson will join the Cardinals in the fall.
"Really excited about this group of young men we are adding to the UIW family," said Kinne. "This group will continue to take this program to new heights. We utilized the portal and junior college ranks to address some immediate needs. We leaned on our relationships with the high school coaches across this state to identify young men who fit our culture; high school signees will continue to be the foundation of our program. The staff will continue to identify and add talent throughout the semester and summer to help us compete for a WAC championship."
Lindsey Scott Jr. | QB | 5'11" | 220 Lbs.
Scott joins UIW as a transfer student from Nicholls State University. Throughout his last two years as a Colonel, the quarterback racked up 293 passes for 3,767 yards and 34 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,547 yards for 15 touchdowns in just 18 games. Scott was a 3x Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week honorable mention, a 2x Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week and a 2x Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week.
Prior to Nicholls, Scott spent time at Missouri (2018), East Mississippi Community College (EMCC, 2017) and LSU (2016). He helped guide EMCC to an 11-1 record and the 2017 NJCAA National Championship and MACJC State Title.
The Zachary, Louisiana, native is the son of Sonja Scott and Lindsey Scott Sr. He has one sister, who is on the track team at Louisiana Tech University, and one brother. He is continuing his pursuit of a bachelor's degree in mathematics with a concentration in computer science.
Steven Parker | DL | 6'4" | 240 Lbs.
Parker joins UIW as a transfer student from the University of Kansas. The defensive end tallied 40 tackles and four tackles for loss in his 25 games as a Jayhawk. A Dallas native, Parker played at South Cliff High School where he was rated in the top 20 nationally at his position. He totaled 100 tackles, including 20 sacks and 26 tackles for loss. Parker earned the Texas 6-5A Player of the Year and District 5-A Defensive Player of the Year during his senior season. He was also District 11-5A Defensive MVP. While at South Cliff HS, Parker was rated number 36 in the Dallas Morning News Top 100 rankings.
Parker is the son of Die Anie Blythe and Dysaniece Taylor.
Chris Whittaker | DL | 6'3" | 270 Lbs.
Whittaker joins the Cardinals as a transfer student from Florida International University (FIU). The 270-pound defensive lineman played in 11 games for the Panthers, tallying 22 tackles to rank sixth among defensive linemen. He also registered four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, second best at FIU. Whittaker put pressure on the quarterback, registering five QB hurries and one recovered fumble.
The 3-star recruit out of Chaminade-Madonna high School was listed as the 12
th-best defensive end out of the state of Florida. He compiled 77 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries during his senior season.
The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native is the son of Jewell McDonald. Whittaker is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication at UIW.
Zamari Maxwell | DB | 6'1" | 175 Lbs.
Maxwell joins UIW as a transfer student from the University of Central Florida (UCF). As a red-shirt senior, Maxwell comes to the Cardinals with 47 total tackles, two tackles for loss and eight passes defended in 40 games played at UCF. He also earned the AAC All-Academic Team honors, twice (freshman and red-shirt junior season).
The Pinellas Park High School graduate tallied 28 tackles, two interceptions and four pass break-ups in his eight-game senior season. Maxwell also competed on the offensive end where he rushed for 162 yards for two touchdowns. He was named to the Second-Team Florida Class 7A All-State as a junior after tallying seven interceptions.
In the fall of 202 Maxwell earned the Dean's List honor at UCF. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies at UIW.
Isaiah Robinson | RB | 6'2" | 220 Lbs.
Robinson joins UIW as a transfer student from Navarro Junior College. During his time with the Bulldogs, he rushed for 1,420 yards and 15 touchdowns, with a career-long 57-yard rushing touchdown in the 2020-21 season.
The Humble, Texas, native is pursuing a Bachelor in Cultural Studies.
Austin DeArmond | OL | 6'4" | 285 Lbs.
The San Antonio native joins UIW from Reagan High School. While with the Rattlers, DeArmond, an offensive-lineman, received the academic all-district award.
DeArmond is the son of Claudia DeArmond-Longoria, Greg DeArmond and Crissy DeArmond, and he has two siblings. He plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in hopes of one day opening his own gymnasium.
Kole Wilson | WR | 5'9" | 165 Lbs.
Wilson joins the Cardinals from Katy, Texas, where he spent four years at Paetow High School. The state champion joins the Cardinals as a first team all-district receiver and a second team All-Greater Houston receiver. Wilson was named academic all-district and academic all-state during his time at Paetow HS.
Wilson is the son of Kinard Wilson, Cheryl Davis and
Kevin Brown Sr. He has one sibling and plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.
Jaheim Patterson | SAF | 6'5" | 200 Lbs.
The defensive back joins UIW from Everman High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Patterson was named the first team all-district cornerback after recording 60 tackles, six tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries.
Patterson is the son of Henry and Stacey Patterson and has six siblings. He plans to pursue Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.
Lloyd "LJ" Johnson | DL | 6'2" | 270 Lbs.
Johnson joins the Cardinals from Liberty Hill High School. He is a three-year varsity player where he tallied 132 total tackles (65 solo), eight sacks, three caused fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
