SAN ANTONIO – Following a historic 2022 season, five student-athletes from the University of the Incarnate Word football team received Stats Perform FCS All-America Honors.
Lindsey Scott Jr. was named to the first team All-America Team,
Taylor Grimes and
Kelechi Anyalebechi were selected to the second team, while
Darion Chafin secured a spot on the third team.
Kole Wilson was named to the Freshman All-America Team.
Walter Payton Award Finalist, Scott, had an impressive final season, finishing 322-454-8 with 60 passing touchdowns and an average of 334.7 yards per game to give him a 70.93 completion percentage. On the ground, he tallied 11 touchdowns and 50.86 yards per game for a total of 712 yards on 132 attempts.
Grimes totaled 15 touchdowns this season, averaging 87.21 yards per game. He had a season-high three touchdowns against McNeese and 122 reception yards against Faulkner. He tallied at least one touchdown in 10 of his 14 games played.
Anyalebechi led the Cardinals in solo (65), assisted (49), and total tackles (114). He also accumulated 10 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, three pass breakups, two QB hurries, two fumble recoveries, and three touchdowns. He finished with a season-high 16 tackles in the FCS quarterfinal game against Sacramento State.
Chafin led the team with 18 receiving TDs, averaging 88.86 yards per game. He had a season-high three touchdowns against Furman in the second round of the FCS Playoffs and picked up a record-setting 262 yards at Nevada.
Freshman, Wilson returned two punts for touchdowns against Faulkner, with his longest return of 48 yards. He finished the season with a record-setting 333 punt return yards.
