THE LAST TIME THEY MET
McNeese State (UIW 1-3)
Almost exactly a year ago, the Cardinals suffered a loss against McNeese in a match that went to four sets. UIW and the Cowgirls traded points throughout all four, while almost every set was decided by four points.
Runs were the name of the game for both teams as they not only traded points evenly but runs as well.
Annamarie Alvarez finished with six kills and an ace for the Cardinals. Jacqueline Arrington had a stellar game as she finished with six kills and an impressive nine blocks. Audrey Patton also contributed two aces and 12 digs for UIW.
The Cardinals will have to watch out for Kendall Glueck and Bailey Tillman as they both were big pawns in the Cowgirls past win.
Southeastern Louisiana (3-1)
The last time UIW faced the Lions, it was a great day to be a Cardinal volleyball fan. It was a nail-biter of a game but UIW came out on top, winning the match 3-1 to hand the team a ticket to the first Southland Conference semi-final match in program history.
Each team entered 20 points throughout each set. The largest win deficit, five points, was set by the Cardinals in the first and fourth sets. The other two sets were decided by two and four points.
Risa Sena had a standout game leading UIW with 15 kills, nine kills, and four blocks. Alvarez also played extremely well adding 10 kills and four blocks of her own. Arrington (4) and Alvarez accounted for more than half of UIW's total 10 blocks. Natalie Kimmel also chipped in 21 assists during the win.
Kibi Huggins and Cicily Hidalgo will be returning for the Lions. Each had over eight kills and were key players in the last match. Setter Ariana Hebert will also be returning.
UIW (3-14)
The trio of Alvarez, Sena, and Kyla Malone have accounted for 63 of the Cardinals' 77 kills over the weekend, proving to be a dynamic offensive force. Arrington has also been a dynamic player for the Cardinals this year with 84 kills and a team-high of 54 blocks. Taylor Stoops has made a name for herself these past few weeks with over 410 assists on the season, she's ranked fifth in the Southland Conference. Not to mention, she's still the overall leader for the Southland in service aces.
The Cardinals went 1-1 this past weekend against the top two ranked teams in the conference, defeating HCU who still sits at number one. They look to have a fierce attitude going into the matches this weekend.
