CHICAGO – Cameron Ward of the University of the Incarnate Word football was named FCS National Freshman Player of the Week as announced by Stats Perform on Monday afternoon. Â
The true freshman continued a sizzling start to his career, accounting for 365 yards and five touchdowns in UIW's 42-20 win at Lamar in the Southland Conference. He completed 29 of 44 passes (65 percent) for 341 yards, throwing four touchdowns for the second straight game (each to a different receiver) and two interceptions. He also rushed for 24 yards and a TD.Â
In two games, Ward has matched a freshman UIW record for most touchdown passes in a single game with four against McNeese and four against Lamar.Â
Senior Kevin Brown received an honorable mention nod in the Offensive Player of the Week category.Â
