FRISCO, Texas – Two University of the Incarnate Word football student-athletes – junior linebacker Kelechi Anyalebechi and sophomore defensive back Jaylon Jimmerson – were selected to the 2020 Southland Conference Football Preseason All-Conference Teams, announced the league office Wednesday. Both were chosen for the defensive second team.
 
Following a solid season last year, both Anyalebechi and Jimmerson were honored with 2019 Southland Football All-Conference third team accolades.
 
Kelechi Anyalebechi – Second Team Defense
Anyalebechi was a force to be reckoned with on the UIW defense during the 2019 season, racking up 25 total tackles (11 unassisted, 14 assisted). He contributed 4.5 tackles for loss for 21 yards, including 4.0 sacks for 29 yards, and two quarterback hurries. The Pearland, Texas, native also forced one fumble and recovered one fumble.
 
Jaylon Jimmerson – Second Team Defense
Jimmerson was a big playmaker for the UIW defense in 2019. The highlight of his freshman season came in the form of a conference-high three interceptions, which he returned for 45 yards. These interceptions contributed to UIW's 17 picks, which led the SLC and was seventh nationally. In addition, Jimmerson ranked third on the team with 43 tackles (23 unassisted, 20 assisted). The Pittsburg, Texas, product had 3.0 tackles for loss, including 1.0 sacks for one yard, and one pass breakup.
