HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers took an early 2-0 lead after hitting a two-run home run in the top of the first, but the UIW answered in the bottom of the second frame. Flores scored as Gutierrez was walked with the bases loaded. Arnold then hit a two RBI single to give UIW the 3-2 advantage.
New Orleans regained the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs for a 5-3 lead. The Privateers extended their lead to 6-3 in the top of the fifth.
UIW took the lead, 8-6, in the bottom of the fifth. First, Thompson smacked an RBI double and E. Gonzalez ripped a two-RBI single. Later in the frame, Gutierrez hit a double to plate E. Gonzalez before coming home himself on an Arnold triple.
The Privateers plated a run in the top of the sixth to make the score 8-7, in favor of UIW, but the Cardinals again had an answer. They plated a run in the bottom of the seventh when
Ridge Rogers scored on a Gutierrez single to extend UIW's lead to 9-7.
The Cardinals added six insurance runs in the eighth -- a
Taylor Smith RBI single, a Thompson three-run home run, a Gutierrez RBI groundout, and an Arnold RBI single -- to secure the 15-7 victory over New Orleans.
