HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals took a quick lead in the top of the first. A two-RBI triple by Valdez and a Jordan Thompson RBI sacrifice fly gave UIW the early advantage before the Bearkats scored a run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 3-1.

SHSU then found a rhythm and scored seven runs in the third to take an 8-3 lead over UIW.

The Cardinals added two runs in the fourth and fifth frames. Chance Medina blasted his first home run as a Cardinal in the fourth, then Thompson scored on a Rogers single to left field in the fifth to cut the Bearkats' lead to 8-5.

SHSU scattered five more runs across the sixth and seventh innings to extend their lead to 13-5. The Cardinals mounted a rally, spreading three more runs across the eighth and ninth innings. E. Gonzalez and Smith scored on a Thomas RBI double in the eighth. R. Gonzalez then came home as Rogers grounded out, but the comeback fell short and the Bearkats secured the 13-8 victory.
