SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team used a four-run fourth inning to capture a 6-1 victory against Texas State on Tuesday night at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
NOTABLES
- Lee Thomas had a 3-for-4 outing with a double and a run.
- Tyler Miller earned the win, striking out three batters in 2.0 innings pitched.
- Taylor Smith is on a six game hitting streak.
- With Sean Arnold's hit tonight, he has reached base in 17 consecutive games, while Antonio Valdez is on a 19-game reached base streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After two scoreless frames, the Cardinals opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when
Ryan Flores scored on a
Ridge Rogers single, giving UIW a brief 1-0 lead. The Bobcats then hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth.
UIW drove in four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Smith scored on a Flores single,
Lee Thomas and
Ryan Gonzalez came home on a
Chance Medina single, and
Ryan Flores scored on a
Sean Arnold one-bagger to give the Cardinals a 5-1 advantage.
The Cardinals secured the 6-1 victory in the bottom of the fifth when Smith scored on a
Jordan Thompson sacrifice fly.
