LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team earned a 4-1 victory against McNeese on Friday night at Joe Miller Ballpark.
NOTABLES
- Sean Arnold had a perfect 2-for-2 outing with a double, two runs, and three walks.
- Luke Taggart earned the win, striking out seven batters in 4.2 innings pitched.
- Tyler Perez struck out four batters and held the Cowboys to one run on two hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
- With tonight's sacrifice fly by Antonio Valdez, the Cardinals have racked up 17 sacrifice flies on the season. Coming into tonight's game, UIW ranked second in the nation in sacrifice flies.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals opened scoring in the first inning when Arnold came home on an
Antonio Valdez sacrifice fly, giving UIW the 1-0 lead.
Ryan Gonzalez then blasted a two-run home run to left field in the top of the second to extend UIW's advantage to 3-0.
The Cowboys scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 3-1, in favor of UIW, but the Cardinals held MCU at bay through the rest of the contest. UIW secured the 4-1 victory in the top of the ninth when Arnold scored on a wild pitch.
